Creative Immersion

Last night I had the opportunity to spend some time with my wife's high school students from Seattle Christian Schools for a photoshoot.  These students were participating in a week long event called Intercession which occurs the week before Spring Break.  All high school students enroll in one all week class on a specialized subject.  Options include going out of the country for missions, help the homeless in Seattle, tutor elementary school students at a neighboring school, and several other opportunities.

My wife's students were learning where creativity can take you in the real world.  The theme was Creative Immersion.  They visited many local businesses in the creative field including an architecture firm and an advertising firm.  They also worked with a well known chef to cook a meal for friends and family.  They also visited many art galleries as part of 1st Thursdays in downtown Seattle. On their last night the students had a sleep over at 415 Westlake and I had the opportunity to do a photoshoot with them.  Here is the result of that shoot.  I had a great time with the kids and see a lot of potential in them! Enjoy!

Success by Accident

One thing that I find fun about photography is that sometimes things happen because of an accident.  I’ve read a lot of blogs from photographers that always talk about making sure to check your settings in your camera before pressing the shutter which I totally understand when it comes to time sensitive shots at a wedding or something that might not be there a second later but if it’s something that is static I don’t worry too much and figure that if it’s not totally perfect the first time I can just adjust a few settings and take it again.  As many of you know one of my favorite places to shoot during my lunch hour is the Seattle Central Library in downtown Seattle.  I was there the other day taking some photos and I stumbled on to something that I liked but it was completely by accident.  I liked the first accident and so I kept repeating it throughout the next ½ hour in the library to try and come up with some fun shots.   So if you’re out taking shots that aren’t time sensitive be willing to experiment and maybe you’ll stumble accidentally onto a cool shot!  Here are a few of my accidents.  Hope you enjoy and don't forget to subscribe to my blog via RSS or email over on the right.
